Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop music that not only drew attention to Latin music but also reggaeton. In 2015 there were two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In 2017, at the height of Despacito's popularity 19, 19 songs mostly in Spanish have made it into the Top 100. By 2020 it will have 41 hits that fall into this category. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma in Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton stars were complaining about its inclination towards mainstream, but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep reggaeton evolving. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music, as well as different forms.
